More Less

If you’ve ever flipped a skincare bottle over to check the ingredient list, you already have the instinct this post is about — most of us can, because it’s printed right there. Diapers haven’t come with the same disclosure, even though a baby goes through more than 6,000 of them before they’re potty trained, worn during the most critical window of brain development they’ll ever have. HealthyBaby was built around closing that gap.

The Family Behind HealthyBaby

HealthyBaby was founded in 2020 by Shazi and Joe, parents to Zane and Asha. Shazi’s first company, Happy Family Organics, grew into one of the largest organic baby food companies in the U.S. — but it was what came after that shaped HealthyBaby. When their son Zane was diagnosed with autism at two, Shazi and Joe stepped back from the business to understand what else, beyond food, might be affecting his development.

That question sent them into years of research alongside obstetricians, developmental pediatricians, neurologists, and environmental biologists. The work continued through a long IVF journey and a complicated pregnancy with their daughter Asha, who became, as Shazi puts it, the first beneficiary of everything they’d learned — protected by that research before she’d even been born.

Joe, who goes by “Chief Dad” at the company, is a parent to both a neurodivergent and a neurotypical child, and much of the brand’s practical, no-overclaiming tone traces back to that dual vantage point. HealthyBaby, in their framing, isn’t a baby-products company so much as a village they wished they’d had — turned into something other families can buy off a shelf.

California Just Caught Up to a Bet HealthyBaby Made in 2020

Here’s the part of the diaper aisle most parents don’t know: in the U.S., diaper manufacturers aren’t required to disclose full ingredient lists the way cosmetics and skincare brands increasingly are. You can find out exactly what’s in your moisturizer. What’s in the product touching your baby’s skin around the clock has, until recently, been the manufacturer’s call.

That’s starting to shift. Momentum is building at the state level for full ingredient disclosure on diaper packaging — the same standard of transparency that’s long been expected of skincare, just now catching up to the nursery.

HealthyBaby‘s entire product line was built on the premise that this information gap shouldn’t exist in the first place. Their diaper became the first to earn EWG VERIFIED® status well ahead of anything requiring it to.

The Receipts

It’s easy for a baby brand to say “clean” and “safe.” HealthyBaby backs it with certifications and third-party recognition that anyone can go check:

  • EWG VERIFIED® — the Environmental Working Group’s strictest standard for ingredient transparency and health, earned by both the diaper and the wipes
  • Microbiome-Friendly® certified by MyMicrobiome, an independent research organization, confirming the products don’t disrupt skin’s natural bacterial balance
  • Dermatologist tested and hypoallergenic across the diaper and wipes lines
  • Recognized by outside press and testing bodies, including “Best Diapers for Sensitive Skin” from The Bump and Forbes Vetted, a Consumer Reports recommendation, and a Good Housekeeping Parenting Award for the wipes
  • Carbon-neutral manufacturing at a facility in the Czech Republic running on renewable energy — a supply-chain detail most baby brands don’t volunteer, let alone measure
  • Made without 3,900+ chemicals the brand has flagged as linked to potential health harm, including chlorine, phthalates, PFAS, parabens, latex, artificial fragrance, optical brighteners, lotions, and VOCs — the exact categories now at the center of California’s disclosure fight

First, the Diaper

The diaper is the flagship for a reason: it’s the one product on a baby’s body nearly around the clock, and the one where “clean” is hardest to prove. It’s also the product carrying the brand’s biggest claim — first EWG VERIFIED® diaper on the market. Here’s what’s in it:

HealthyBaby Non-Toxic Diaper - EWG VERIFIED & Made with Organic Cotton

SHOP OUR DIAPER

Then, the Wipes

Wipes get used more often than diapers and scrutinized far less — most people never flip the pack over. HealthyBaby held them to the same bar instead of treating them as an afterthought:

SHOP OUR WET WIPES

  • EWG VERIFIED®, dermatologist tested, and hypoallergenic
  • 100% water, plant, and mineral-derived — organic aloe vera juice, chamomile extract, and calendula flower extract stand in for synthetic fragrance and preservatives
  • Plastic-free and biodegradable within 180 days under ASTM D5511 standards
  • Recyclable packaging
  • Thick, textured construction — sturdy enough for real messes
  • Available in 4-pack (256 wipes) or 8-pack (512 wipes) bundles, with the same 10% subscription savings

It Doesn’t Stop at the Nursery

The diaper and wipes are the entry point, but they’re proof of concept for a standard HealthyBaby applies across the rest of the house:

  • Prenatal and postnatal: trimester-specific vitamin formulations plus postnatal supplements, extending the same ingredient scrutiny to pregnancy itself
  • Skincare: diaper cream, moisturizing cream, baby balm, and deodorant, all held to the EWG-level standard
  • Home cleaning: a concentrate system covering laundry, general cleaning, hand soap, and dish soap — for the surfaces and fabrics around a baby, not just the baby

It’s less a diaper brand with a product extension and more a full material audit for every part of a home a baby touches directly — which, with regulators only now catching up to the question, is the more interesting story than any single SKU.

Who It’s Built For

  • Babies with eczema, rashes, or reactive skin, where families have already cycled through a few “sensitive” brands looking for one that helps
  • First-time parents who’d rather the research already be done than take it on themselves — which is, by design, the whole premise behind HealthyBaby existing
  • Parents already auditing their home for VOCs, fragrance, and PFAS in furniture, cookware, or cleaning products, who hadn’t thought to extend that same list to the diaper bag
  • Households managing a family member’s asthma or chemical sensitivity, where even a product labeled “unscented” can still trigger a reaction
  • Anyone building a baby registry who’d rather consolidate under one brand across diapers, skincare, and cleaning than piece together five different ones

A Note from Us

Clean, safe products matter to us — especially when it’s for a baby, not just ourselves. So as a women-led company, we get a little extra excited when we find a brand that gets it right, and HealthyBaby is one of our latest. Maybe it’s that Joe still goes by ‘Chief Dad,’ or that Shazi’s first company started in her tiny NYC kitchen before this one — either way, consider this our little discovery worth passing along.
