Inside SAME Swim: The Influencer-Founded Brand That Changed Swimwear

Long before SAME became the go-to brand for fashion-forward swimwear and resort dressing, we were following Shea Marie. Not the designer, not the entrepreneur—but the style icon. Back in the early days of Instagram, she was one of those girls: the kind you followed not just for the outfits, but for her ability to set a tone. She didn’t just wear trends—she forecasted them. Her looks were always effortless, polished, a little unexpected, and completely magnetic. To say we were fans is an understatement.

So when Shea launched her brand SAME in 2015, we were immediately intrigued—and more than a little excited. This was a fashion girl’s brand, built by someone with a true eye and a deep respect for style. SAME wasn’t a celebrity brand built on hype. It was a thoughtful concept built from Shea’s desire to create something lasting—something she knew would outlive the lifespan of a social media trend.

At the time, the idea of an influencer launching a luxury swimwear line wasn’t just rare—it was practically unheard of. Shea was one of the first to make that leap. With no playbook and no “influencer brand” blueprint to follow, she dove in headfirst, leaning on her creative instincts and a personal connection to a Los Angeles-based swimwear factory to help bring her ideas to life.

Back then, swimwear was seen as something practical—designed to be worn under things or quickly covered up. Shea saw an opportunity to change that completely. She envisioned swimwear that could stand alone as fashion—statement pieces that could live outside the confines of the poolside and truly express personal style. And that’s exactly what SAME became: the line that reshaped how we think about swim.

From the very beginning, the quality of SAME’s pieces stood out. There’s a level of craftsmanship that goes beyond trend—each suit is constructed with a designer’s eye and a stylist’s hand. The fits are precise, the materials feel elevated, and the attention to detail is obvious. Wearing SAME doesn’t just feel like putting on swimwear—it feels like dressing in fashion. It’s bold, refined, and made to last.

That level of thought and detail is exactly why we still reach for our SAME suits season after season. They’re the kind of pieces you want to preserve. Over time, they feel less like purchases and more like collectibles—future vintage, if you will. And we love that about them.

What’s perhaps most inspiring is how Shea turned what began as a passion project into a global fashion force. After launching in major luxury retailers like Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, and Selfridges, SAME nearly shuttered during the pandemic when stores canceled their orders. But instead of folding, Shea pivoted. She shifted the brand to a direct-to-consumer model—and the response was explosive. Women were still investing in swim, and they were doing it with SAME. From there, the brand grew exponentially, powered largely by word-of-mouth, social buzz, and the sheer quality of the product itself.

And Shea didn’t stop there.

In 2024, SAME expanded into ready-to-wear and denim—a bold move for a swimwear brand, but one that made complete sense. Over the years, SAME had already cultivated a reputation for being trendsetting, elevated, and cool. Expanding that vision into dresses, loungewear, and soon-to-come fall pieces like jackets and coats was a natural next step. And like everything Shea does, it was done with purpose, patience, and a deep respect for the process of good design.

SAME’s ready-to-wear feels like an extension of everything we’ve always loved about the brand: it’s fashion-first, detail-rich, and wearable from day to night. It’s the evolution of the out-of-office wardrobe, designed for women who want their clothes to work as hard—and look as good—as they do.

What we love most about SAME, though, isn’t just the aesthetic (which is, obviously, flawless). It’s the integrity behind the brand. Shea Marie never made herself the face of the company. She intentionally built a name—literally and figuratively—that could stand on its own. (Fun fact: “SAME” is an acronym formed from the first and last letters of Shea Marie.) She’s remained behind the scenes as the designer, creative director, and businesswoman, letting the product speak for itself. And it always does.

Almost a decade after SAME launched, it remains one of the most compelling fashion stories to come out of the influencer era—not because it capitalized on hype, but because it was built on vision, instinct, and relentless attention to detail.

SAME isn’t just a swim brand. It’s a fashion brand with depth, direction, and serious staying power. And we couldn’t be more proud to have followed the journey from the very beginning.
